Physical Properties

AXINITE gets its name from its sharp edged crystals formed in a shape like an axe head. Usually brown but yellow, blue and purple crystals occur. It is strongly pleochroic. Locations include the USA, Mexico, Cornwall, England, France, Pakistan and Russia.
Chemical composition: Complex borosilicate.
Crystal structure: Triclinic.
Hardness: 7
