Physical Properties
Technically Amber is not a crystal but the fossilized resin of trees. It can contain moss, lichen, pollen, leaves, insects and larger creatures that were trapped millions of years ago when the resin was still sticky. It is very light and can float in sea water. The famous deposits are in the Baltic region, Poland and the former USSR. This amber can be washed up on the shores of Denmark, Norway and England. Amber is also found in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Romania, Czech Republic, Canada and the USA.
Chemical composition: A mixture of fossilized organic plant resins.
Crystal structure: Amorphous.
Hardness: 2.5
